– Major, US Army
Will Lyles served in the Army from ’03 -’14 as a Special Forces officer. Major Lyles was wounded on 8/28/10 and lost both of his legs above the knee.
Q. Will, If you could do it all over again, what would you change, if anything at all?
A. “I don’t have anything I would do different. It is what it is, you’ve got to suck it up and make the best of it. I was doing what I loved the day I got injured… and I was good at it, it just so happened that I got wounded. I feel like I’m blessed… the fact that I’m still here and still able to see my kids, to enjoy my family, to do basically anything I want; I mean, there’s not really anything more that I can ask for. I think serving this country and going to war a few times taught me appreciation for how good we have it here. Even without my legs I wouldn’t trade it or change anything about it… maybe I’d step left instead of right.”
Q. What advice would you give someone who may be struggling?
A. “One foot in front of the other, that’s all you got to do…just don’t quit.”
