Imagine waking up every day without one or more of your limbs, with severe burns, paralyzed, brain injury, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. For thousands of War on Terror wounded veterans these are just some of the physical realities and challenges which will remain with them the rest of their lives – they need our support and help.
Impact A Hero provides immediate and ongoing support for our severely wounded, post-9/11 combat veterans and their families and caregivers.
The key elements of Impact a Hero’s mission to empower and support these Heroes:
- Bridging the financial gap for veterans and families – We bridge the financial gap for veterans and families with immediate financial support so they can move forward with their lives.
- Bridging the gap between Heroes: We provide ongoing emotional support by connecting injured veterans, families and caregivers to one another through events and mentorship.
- Bridging the gap between a supportive community and Heroes: We provide the channel for community members to show their respect, appreciation and support for wounded veterans and their families through volunteering, donations and corporate sponsorship.
Impact a Hero provides programs which benefit the entire family, not just the wounded veterans. When the veteran is injured, the family is injured. Our programs care for whole families and caregivers in the wake of traumatic combat injures.
Emergency Financial Aid - Many of our wounded heroes and their families need immediate financial support. Grants help offset the loss of income while a parent or spouse is the caregiver to the injured Hero; provide assistance for basic living expenses such as: mortgage, rent, car maintenance, utilities, groceries, etc.; transportation and lodging expenses of multiple family members visiting their injured family member; and assist with payments of uncovered medical expenses or prosthetic device upgrades, and handicap accessible retrofits in their home.
Emotional Support – The program provides support through events throughout the year such as the annual Impact a Hero 3-Day Weekend consisting of: 5K Race, Hall of Fame Gala, Caregivers Program, and Golf Tournament. Other events throughout the year such as Clay Tournaments, Sporting Events, 3-Gun Shoot Tournaments, and other activities which engage veterans to interact with other veterans and the community.
Holiday Support - In this program we produce Christmas and holiday parties for our wounded heroes at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX; and James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL. Gifts are collected and every person: the veteran, spouse, and kid(s) all receive a gift personally from Santa.
TrackChair Loan Program - Trackchairs provide freedom to roam in all types of terrain, giving wounded veterans the freedom to hunt, fish, paintball, enjoy family beach outings, camping, and other types of outdoor activities they would not normally be able to participate in with the limitations of a traditional wheelchair.
“Our focus is to help our wounded heroes in a timely fashion with no bureaucracy. If they need financial help we get it to them fast. If they need an emotional lift by meeting one of their sports heroes then we fight through the roadblocks and get that accomplished.”
- Dick Lynch, founder
